WELCOME TO

…our corner of the world…
ROVER, TENNESSEE

Rover is a community located in the North West corner of Bedford Co. Tennessee.

From the new Rover History Book Vol. II Dick Poplin writes: “Since the Tenth District is in the northwestern corner of Bedford County and adjacent to Rutherford County, it has had close connection with some of the communities in that county, closer than with some Bedford County communities. In the beginning, Eagleville to the northwest and Versailles to the northeast were in Williamson County, and that county had a great influence on our area. There is indication that there was some shifting of county lines in early days so that some of what is now the tenth district of Bedford County may have been in Williamson County even though we would be hard pressed to find official records of those changes in the county line. Some who were known to have lived in what is now Bedford County were included in the Williamson County census of 1830.”

A committee has been formed twice to write the history of the district. A book was published in 1986. Copies quickly sold out and since there seemed to be a demand for a reprinting, a new committee was formed in 1998 for the purpose of updating the book, making corrections and then reprinting the original book. Due to the amount of new material turned in, it was decided to write a Vol. II. Both Vol. I and Vol. II are now available.

*Special Note: The purpose of this website is to inform you of the availability of the Rover History Book. I have not researched many of the names and therefore cannot supply information, as I do not have that amount of time.

First published in 1986, an edition of 1,500 copies sold out within one year. This REPRINT is in answer to demand from folks who have left THIS very special community but still have Rover in their hearts. Vol. I The History of Rover, includes 109 pages of general history, land grants, current residents (1986), schools, churches, etc. along with 241 pages of family histories. There are hundreds of wonderful old photographs.
Our goal was to update the first history book, but so much new information was turned in that there was no way to include everything in one volume, so Volume II was written. Many histories of 10th District families that are found in Vol. I were not included in Vol. II unless they were rewritten and resubmitted. Family histories, some of which date back as early as 1700, are included in Volume II, along with a map and list of almost every family living in the district, with family stories. Included are the 1812 tax list along with the 1860 census.

These books are still available. For a printable order form, please click here: Order Form
